Any thoughts? Hoping to not buy a new computer quite yet (wife and I are still paying off student loans), but I should be getting a bonus soon so it might be the right time.Įdit : Thanks for the advice everyone! I think my wife and I are just going to use this as incentive to go get a "new" mac, especially since this one can't upgrade to Mojave, which means OS support is on life support for my model currently. Already upgraded to 16GB RAM a few years back which helped a ton. Just don't want to get an SSD if the logic board or some other large issue is present. It's old and getting slow, but I know an SSD upgrade will help with that. Other than that the computer works pretty well, and is enough power for what we need currently. Doesn't feel real hot when it does this, so I don't think it overheated or anything. Usually if I just leave it off for 5-10 minutes it will come back on just fine.

Freezes up occassionally and I have to hard cycle it (I know this is common occurrence for Windows but I haven't had this issue on my Mac before), and then sometimes it doesn't want to come back on. A few issues here and there where it's not detecting my trackpad clicks, but not too often. Just like opening the water tap and not getting water at the sink we need to locate the pathway. Once I’ve identified power is getting to the logic board correctly. I focus on voltage measurements on the power rails. Generally once the computer wakes up, it's fine. Measuring resistors like you’ve done is not how I work out charging problems.

So it's not registering my trackpad/keyboard very well when asleep. In this video, I go over the process of repairing an Early-2011 13' Apple MacBook Pro that partially turns on, but the fan will not spin and the system wont. So I went to my friend and got his charger, However, I got the same message again. But despite showing 'Magsafe connected' on the screen it shows 'Battery is not charging'. knowing of the heat issues and the board, I also installed two SSD's at the time, one in the main bay and one in the CD bay- (1.5T total) to keep the heat down and to maximize overall speed. The computer works fine and has 50 charge left in the battery. Macbook pro 17' late 2011 here, have not had any problems with my logic board since one time replacement due to boot problem- going over two years now. To cut a long story short a puff of smoke came out of the airport card. Macbook pro early 2011-13 inches, last night. I'll click on the trackpad or keyboard, and the computer won't wake up. Was running like a dream until I tried to add a second drive with an optibay. Keyboard and trackpad have a hard time "waking up".

When the computer updates, it tends to either take 3+ hours to actually finish the update process, or it freezes after rebooting. So basically I have to tell it to sleep manually. He fixed the GPU issue, but in the process he broke the sensor or whatever detects that the lid has been closed. I had the GPU failure a couple years ago, but it was after Apple closed out their hardware replacement plan, so I took it to a local guy who did solder work (I'm in IT/Software but have never learned soldering). I have an early 2011 15" MBP that is definitely showing it's age, but I'm trying to figure out if my logic board is going out or not (aka if it's time to replace or if I can get a couple more years out of it).

I will never buy a macbook again, because apple are not reliable and it is not value for money.New to this board here, but I've been searching through it for a week or two now. Just a few days after repair, my macbook made a pop sound and started crackling for 10 seconds. Support assured me they would look into the cause during the second repair but instead they only made the same repair as the first. I feel sorry to say that 20 year old television are getting their products repaired with no problem. Logic board and touch id replaced each time. They said I am unlucky because they can not do anything for the macbook. It's been only 5 years that I made use of it and now I have to thrash it. But it's a shame that such a big organisation does not have any more of this logic board. Since I am in the extension programme I wanted it repaired. Apple store contacted apple and to my surprise they said that the logic board is out of stock and cannot repair the macbook early 2011. Apple store tested and told me that the logic board test failed again. After 1 week I had to brought it backto the apple store because it was having multiples of shutting down, 10-15 times per day.

I brought it to the apple store and apple was very kind to replace the logic board in Feb 2017 since the macbook was eligible for the repair programme.

I had my hard disk replaced & logic board after 5 years due to a logic board failure. I have a Macbook Pro 15' Early 2011 which i bought for a fortune.
